NEXT DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: Scholarships & Tuition Reimbursement Colonel Jim Raudebaugh Memorial Scholarship Graduating High School Seniors Currently Enrolled College or Technical School Students
Purpose
To encourage members to continue their formal education as part of their professional development by providing financial assistance for Solid Waste related education, which is mutually advantageous to the industry and the member.
A. Eligibility Criteria To be considered eligible for the Tuition Reimbursement Program the person must be a member who has been with the SWANA-Georgia Chapter for at least three years and has been employed in the Solid Waste Industry for five years. Reimbursement is limited to a maximum of $1,000 annually (as funds are available). B. Qualification Criteria The following factors will be taken into consideration when granting approval for tuition reimbursement: • In order to receive
reimbursement, the course needs to be completed with satisfactory
performance, undergraduate courses “C” or better, and graduate courses
“B” or better, and a “pass” when taking a pass/fail course. Note, work related seminars, extension courses, certification programs, workshops, and other educational programs of short duration are not eligible for tuition reimbursement. SWANA-Georgia Chapter will reimburse for the following: • Tuition at a rate of 50% of accredited state institution (e.g. UGA, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, etc.) costs. Please note, SWANA-Georgia Chapter does not reimburse for the following: • Computer transmission
fees for distance learning programs The member is responsible for the following: • Securing the necessary
SWANA pre-approvals (must be in writing) for course work and degree
plans, prior to commencement of course or program. Required documentation includes: • Original, completed
and approved Tuition Reimbursement Program application
A. Payments Made by an Outside Agency A member will be eligible for reimbursement if he or she has paid out-of-pocket expenses directly to the school. Any financial assistance paid to the school on the behalf of a member is not eligible for reimbursement. This applies to scholarships, PELL grants, benefits of the GI bill, federal assistance, or other student financial aid money that is not required to be paid back to the lending or granting institution by the member. Members receiving tuition support of financial assistance from any alternate source must report it including the amount of the application form. This amount will be deducted before computing the allowable reimbursement. Members who fail to report alternate sources and amounts of financial aid on the application will be liable for return of the reimbursement award, and face possible exclusion from future reimbursement program eligibility. B. Expectations SWANA expects that members completing coursework will maintain their membership. Should a member not maintain their membership in good standing while participating in this program, no reimbursement shall be made for the course/program being taken at the time.
